Hermès Scarf 90 cm – Les Pivoines – Christiane Vauzelles (1977)

VENDU

Les Pivoines (The Peonies) is a Hermès scarf designed by Christiane Vauzelles and first issued in 1977. The designer, a specialist in botanical subjects at Hermès, offers here one of her most accomplished compositions: a wreath of pink peonies in full bloom, spreading their petals over a soft green caning ground, as if laid in a large woven wicker basket.
The scarf has had two notable reissues: 1990 (identical to the original), then 2006 in a reworked version — without the caning motif in the background, and therefore graphically less rich.
A delicate, feminine, Japanese-inspired piece, much sought after for the freshness of its botanical rendering. In very good condition. Without box.

A word from Diane

I have a particular soft spot for Les Pivoines in this first edition from 1977. Christiane Vauzelles plays on two registers at once: the graceful profusion of the flowers in the foreground, and the calm rigour of the caning that supports them in the background. It is this dialogue that makes the piece — and it is precisely what disappeared in the 2006 version.

Please note

This scarf is a pre-owned piece. Despite the greatest care taken in its selection and presentation, it may show slight signs of use which in no way affect its charm or its wearability. All our scarves are cleaned and pressed by a specialist Hermès dry cleaner before going on sale.
